crafty_packrat: Apple Tarts for all! (baking)

The hand mixer I've had for years just died while I was trying to make cookie dough with it. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be any way to open it up and see if I can repair it, so I'm probably going to have to toss it and get a new machine.

Anyone have suggestion for a brand/model to get? I tend to use it for heavier mixing tasks, like cookie dough, or the early stages of bread and whipping egg whites (which is beyond tedious by hand).

I don't know if they still exist, but I've had good luck with Mixmasters -- had one that lasted 50 years and another that lasted about 40, both of Mom's that I inherited, and the attachments for each one fit the other. They have dough hooks, and the regular beaters are good for cookie dough; there are/were attachments for things like juicing oranges.
