Market haul...
Aug. 16th, 2009 08:04 pmI bought sweet potato greens, kale, a quart of blackberries (mmmm, sorbet... and maybe fool, too), peaches, plums, a pound of ground beef, an empanada and a cheese danish today.
I'm going to take
ellen_fremedon's advice about pan cooking the greens and have them for lunch with the left-over pork shoulder; get some ham, olives, and mushrooms to add to the kale in a fancy savory loaf at the grocery tomorrow; get a can of tomato sauce and make chili; and make a peach pie or clafouti sometime this week.
I'm also seriously considering joining my local co-op even though it's a bit pricey. I don't think I can keep shopping at Whole Foods considering the utter repulsiveness of its CEO'a opinion on health care reform and other factors. I'm going to miss the fancy cheeses, Sirius chocolate, and skyr (it is available at Balducci's... sigh). At least the challah at the co-op is almost as good, about the same price, and actually kosher-certified (so I can take it to observant friends, if I ever need to...)
I don't know what it is, but the last two weekends I've wanted to bake and cook up a storm. There's no way I can eat all the food, or even store it, so I'm trying to restrain my impulses... I really need to have people over (or get a girlfriend to cook for, I suppose)...
