Farmer's Market -- 19 Aug 12
Aug. 19th, 2012 03:47 pmYesterday I picked up a batard of white bread, some poblanos, some black krim and beefeater tomatoes and ran into
ellen_fremdeon.
Together we wallked to the art market, which may have been a mistake, because Molas 4 U was there with their fantastic shoes.
Today, I went to the Takoma market because the fruit is generally 50ยข per pound, and with the bus shuttle running because they've closed the local metro for the weekend, it was entirely free to get there. Also, I needed to pick up some superglue, because I knocked lid of my sugar bowl off and it broke... I picked up chard, dragon's breath cheese, a pound of Ananheim peppers, some fantastic red-fleshed plums, honey peaches (ice cream! or cobbler), zestar apples, a pint of blackberries (to the freezer), a half-gallon of milk, and a chives quark. Unfortunately, it started raining heavily, so I went to a cafe, and then to the hardware store. While I was browsing the seed packets, one of the staff came up to me and went "You like plants? I have a free plant for you..." in a very surreptious manner, as if he were offering me illicit drugs or something. What it turned out to be was a sad looking specimen labeled only Peaonia, which seems to be suffering from overwatering and incorrect light conditions, but which might be powdery mildew :( . I've set it out on the retaining wall for now, since that's a nice sunny patch and hope to see if it improves in a few days of direct sun.
However, I really don't have a place for a full-sized peony of unknown variety. If someone local wants it and thinks they have a spot for it, let me know -- it might turn out to be a perfectly lovely plant, with a sunny place and a transplanting into the ground before winter.
